This is an antique Sears & Roebuck platform scale. It has a patented date of Jan. 4, 1898. The Sears mail order catalogue started in 1895. I have a Sears 1897 catalogue that shows these Sears branded scales sold for from $11.50 to $20.00 depending on the weight capacity. In the 1908 Sears catalogue, there were two platform scales listed. The "Standard" scale was branded "New Century" and the "Extra Quality" scale was branded "Atlas". This scale works fine. All four wheels are free and roll just fine. You can see in the pictures that this scale is in great shape, especially considering it's age. It comes with the starter weight and a 50 lb., a 100 lb., and two 200 lb. weights. I will not take this scale apart, so it can be shipped by UPS. It has been assembled too long; I won't risk damaging it. It will have to be picked up at our barn.

Most of the things you see in our store have never been owned by a collector or been in an antique shop. They have come straight from the families and farms that have used them and stored them away in their attics, barns and woodsheds for decades. They are real things that were used by real people, so they are not going to be perfect. You should expect them to have character. When we describe the condition, we mean compared to anything else that old. I will do my best to point out, either in the description and/or pictures, anything I notice that to me is significant. But, I can't mention every little thing. So, please look at the pictures and read the description carefully. If you need different views in the pictures or you have any questions, call or E-mail me before you buy. We will be happy to reply. We want you to be satisfied with your purchase. Our items are offered as a piece of history for collectors to be used for decoration or display. We don't represent that they will do the job they were designed for years ago, so once you buy them, how you use them is up to you.
